The 74th Hugo Awards were announced at the World Science Fiction convention in Kansas City. The Hugos' distinguishing feature is that, unlike the Nebula Awards, the votes are cast by those present at the convention.
Last year, the Hugo Awards were highly controversial for a reason I will mention below, but let's just say that several voting groups have gained interest in supporting their favorites at the top of the lists, which has led them to not even hide their preferences for their main candidates.
A small group of people calling themselves "Sad Puppies" and a rival group, "Ravid Puppies," disagree with the loss of a special touch in the science fiction genre that allows for same-sex couples and women with smaller breasts to exist. This has turned the Hugo Awards into a bad joke and a kind of confrontation between different groups, taking away the charm of these awards.
