More and more companies are launching their eReaders internationally, and consequently, more devices with new and interesting improvements are arriving in Spain. Not long ago, we saw Kobo and the Tolino Alliance arrive in Spain . Today, we're talking about a somewhat confusing eReader that aims to compete with the Kindle in Spain : the Szenio 1600DC . However, as you'll read, there's little chance of it actually succeeding.
Szenio 1600DC Features
The Szenio 1600DC is a low-end eReader with a 6-inch e-ink screen . Other specifications include 128MB of RAM, a 600MHz dual-core ARM A9 processor, and 4GB of internal storage. Its Linux-based software supports TXT, PDF, HTML, CHM, RTF, FB2, EPUB, JPG, and GIF formats. While the Szenio 1600DC uses a Li-ion battery, its capacity is unknown , so despite its " long-lasting battery," its actual battery life remains unclear . As is now common with most eReaders, the Szenio 1600DC features Wi-Fi connectivity, a microSD card slot for expandable storage, and a USB-mini-USB port.
The Szenio 1600DC display raises a serious question. In the documentation provided by Szenio, the screen is a TFT screen, however when you see other documentation or images of the device we can verify that the screen is made of electronic ink, but we do not know the manufacturer and if it really is electronic ink although everything seems to indicate Yes. We know that the screen is touch and that the resolution is 800 x 600 but we do not know more.
The price of the eReader as well as its distribution are perhaps the strongest points of the device ; the price of the Szenio 1600DC is 69 euros and we can find it in almost all shopping centers and large stores in Spain, something we cannot do with other ereaders such as the Kindle and which is 10 euros cheaper than Bezos' eReader.
Opinion
For those looking for their first eReader and who don't want to spend a lot, or for those unsure whether they'll enjoy reading on an eReader, the Szenio 1600DC might be the best option . However, if you enjoy reading and don't care about the device, or simply want to upgrade, the Szenio 1600DC is the worst choice, not only because of its confusing features, but also because of its poor quality, limited specifications, and the inability to purchase ebooks directly on the device. Of course, this is just my personal opinion; I'm sure some of you have your own, different one, right?
