The digital age in which we live usually brings us good news almost daily, and today we woke up to the pleasant surprise that the Emily Dickinson Archive is now fully accessible to the general public , an archive where we can find all the manuscripts of the poet Emily Dickinson digitized.
Starting today, it's possible to access almost the complete works of this poet thanks to contributions from Harvard, Amherst, the Boston Public Library, the Library of Congress, and four other collections. Although they faced difficulties in reaching an agreement to release the works in their possession, they finally did so, giving us the opportunity to explore Dickinson's work in greater depth. Many works by different authors have already been fully digitized, but unfortunately, many are not open to the general public due to the reluctance of their owners. However, on this occasion, anyone with an internet connection can consult any of the works of this famous poet, who had a romantic relationship with Newton, about whom she wrote in one of her letters: "I have found a beautiful new friend."
Visiting the Emily Dickinson Archive undoubtedly reveals the wealth of valuable information available, although it's certainly not the same as seeing a page written in the author's own hand. This new digitization gives us the opportunity to get closer to Dickinson's life and work, which we would otherwise almost certainly only be able to know superficially.
