We're looking at yet another digital photo frame, one of many that have been launched in recent years. And now, Gigaazon and Gigabyte, two Taiwanese companies, have announced the launch of what they claim will be the world's first wireless digital photo frame.
The Pixer is a digital photo frame with a 6-inch Carta E-Ink screen and an unnamed type of wireless connectivity that supposedly allows you to update the frame from a companion app.
This 6-inch Carta E-Ink screen features 300 DPI and 16-bit grayscale. Its frame takes full advantage of e-ink's key characteristics to deliver a photographic-quality display that is reflective rather than backlit and glare-free.
By using e-ink, the Pixer retains the image even when it's turned off, just like the wallpapers we use on Kindles and other devices with this type of screen. Therefore, the Pixer frame also maintains another advantage of this type of panel: long battery life.
What's interesting about this frame is that it's a joint venture between Gigazon and Gigabyte. Gigabyte is well -known for manufacturing motherboards and other PC components like graphics cards, so their partnership with this Taiwanese company is surprising.
Pixer has an app that offers a number of advantages such as its interactivity and intuitive user interface that will allow you to invite friends to connect to the digital frame to share their photos wirelessly.
Now let's hope it's a product that can succeed where so many others have fallen short of becoming a mainstream consumer product, with all that entails for a company like this.
