It's been almost three years since the New York Times launched its own mobile app, which displayed its latest news and articles tailored to users' interests. This app was revolutionary at the time, but it's currently experiencing little to no success.
Perhaps that's why the management of the famous newspaper has announced that next month it will shut down the app service and remove it from the app stores where it's available. NYT Now will cease to exist, although we can say that its technology will not.
Many of its algorithms and software that the NYT Now app has will be taken to the New York Times website as well as to other digital facets of the media, significantly improving it for a better experience for New York Times customers and users.

And customers and users of these types of apps don't lose their way of receiving news, since apps like Apple News, Flipboard, and Facebook Instant Articles are currently filling the gaps that the absence of this app will create. This is possibly what caused the NYT News to disappear, as these apps offer the same content, but they don't provide the support and maintenance that the New York Times does. Therefore, leaving the apps to other companies allows the news outlet to save money, or even make a profit, as many editors who use the other apps claim.
Personally, I think the discontinuation of NYT Now is great news, not only for the company but also for users who want to receive news in just one app and not have multiple apps for reading news. Just like with news apps, the same could happen with reading apps , don't you think?
