During these days We have been able to test and verify Kobo's high-end eReader, the Kobo - eBook ...Kobo Aura H2O »/]. An eReader that we have to thank the Kobo company since it has kindly been given to us for testing and analysis.
Regarding the box, when unboxing the product, we have to say that it is a box with a renewed design but inside which we do not find anything new: the Kobo Aura H2O, the usb-microusb cable and documents on warranty and quick start. Many users miss a power adapter, but like many eReader manufacturers, the Kobo Aura H2O does not have it.
Kobo Aura H2O Hardware
The Kobo Aura H2O has interesting features, not only its IP67 certification which assures us that it is resistant to water and certain shocks but also a 6,8 ″ screen or the possibility of being able to expand the memory through a microsd slot.
La screen is 6,8 ″ with a resolution of 1430 x 1080 pixels, with Letter technology and 265 ppi. This screen, in addition to being a touch screen, has software illumination.
The size of the Kobo Aura H2O is 179 x 129 x 9,7 mm with an approximate weight of 233 grams. The processor of this eReader has a speed of 1 Ghz, but little else we know about this component besides the ram memory we do not know. In the case of autonomy, this is about 2 months, but like everything else, it will depend on the use we give it. The battery is Li-On of 1.700 mAh. approximately. During its use we have noticed that when recharging the battery, with about 5 minutes, the battery percentage is quite high.
Kobo Aura H2O Software
Regarding the software, the Kobo Aura H2O maintains the same interface as the rest of its Kobo siblings. Perhaps it would be good to point out that there is a humidity button that no other eReader has to leave it activated for the screen's anti-humidity system to work.
The rest of the software is identical, a kind software with the user experience that every time incorporates and gives more options to the users for their personalization. An example of this customization is the possibility of changing or installing the dictionary you want from the more than 15 dictionaries it has.
As I said in the video of the analysis, maybe an error or a small oversight (call it whatever you want) is that the "Beta Functions" are still called like this, that is to say, the web browser continues to be called beta although it has little beta, etc…. Maybe in the future and after a few years working like this, the name would have to be changed, especially for novice users who see them as something experimental, an addition to the eReader and not as what it is.

Until I get home I have not been able to watch the videos. It seems to me that this is the only ereader that I would consider changing Kindle for. Its 6,8 ″ screen and its resistance make it very attractive.
That is, in my opinion it has some negative points, from what I have read (I have not had the opportunity to test it):
- The subject of dictionaries… I have read that Kindle is much superior in that. Also on the subject of translations. Kindle does them much better apparently (I have read a book in English and it is quite acceptable, I do not know the one from Kobo).
- The weight… I know that it is a 6,8 ″ screen but sometimes I get tired holding my kindle paperwhite dd 212 grs in my hand. I imagine that the 233 grs. of this even worse.
- The organization of the library: it shares a defect with Kindle: I don't like the "collections" system. I like to put the books in a folder created on the pc with the title "terror" or "pepito de los palotes" and drag it to the reader.
On the other hand, the issue of being waterproof is fine. Hopefully the next thing is solar charging and thus forgetting forever about having to recharge them.
Hello Mikij1, thanks for reading us and watching the videos. The truth is that my impression is also very positive. Of the negative points, the subject of dictionaries is quite broad although I have not tried them. Regarding the weight tell you that it is very light. Officially it weighs 233 grams, but possibly weighs less, as is evident I have put the official information, I have not weighed it. But I confirm that it is light. And then, when it comes to collections, there's always Caliber. I'm glad that your opinion is positive, greetings 😉
I could already see the videos. By the way, the hardware is repeated 🙂
The photo that you have just from "Kobo Aura H20 Software", the back is the other kobo, right? the one you say held on better ...
I think it is a good ereader but I still think that these devices have a lot of room for improvement in terms of contrast (with the screen light off, the background is still quite dark, despite the advances made by Pearl and Carta).
For the rest, ereaders should offer more variety in screen size: it seems that there are only 6 ″ ones, this one with 6,8, an 8 ”Pocketbook model and 2 or 3 wrongly counted 9,7 at a price that is too high. . Color, solar charging, lighter, stylus to take notes ...
I wonder if we will see those advances or if eink technology has finally reached its peak and will die here.
Let's see what news manufacturers have in store for us this year. I suppose that by September or October we will see new ereaders from Amazon and Kobo right?
Hello,
Re. The dictionaries, I have a Kobo H2O, and I read uhco in English and I have to say that the translator dictionary is perfect and very fast.
Hello, I read your review and well, I have already wanted to buy an ereader, which one would you recommend? This model seems interesting to me because of its resistance to water and it is what caught my attention the truth, I never had an ereader and I would like to buy one but I do not know which one is the truth.
In my opinion if you choose this or the kindle Paperwhite you will not regret it.
I have a KPaperwhite 2 and I am very very happy with it, except for the screen size issue. I am so happy that I do not consider abandoning it, in any case having two readers and making my dream of reading, for example, The Wanderer of the Stars come true in two translations and comparing, or reading Mark Twain in English and Spanish at the same time without having to go giving the index, in short, crazy things that give me. Now I raise a specific question about the Kobo, does it allow direct access to Wikipedia if such a word does not have a translation or does it tell us about a character or concept that can be expanded in that direction? Next and last doubt: as this KH20 came out approximately 1 year ago, and I don't know the rate of news that that company has, wouldn't Kobo release a new H20 by the end of this 2015? Because it has some detail that I am sure (or I hope, rather) that they will improve, the back I think is as always, very dirty and with a cumbersome bulge, the edges can decrease by half a cm and make a more bearable product etc. Well, I won't take too long, if someone reads me and can help me ... thank you.
Good morning
Reading an electronic book with hyperlinks (for example, the footnotes that normally refer us to a page where they are all collected and then there is another link to return to the reading point), is it possible to make them work with this model by clicking on they?
Thank you
Very good size, better than 6 ″. Because they stick to that size, paperbacks are closer to 6,8 ″ than 6 ″, slightly more than 6,8 in fact.
There is some comment about "crashes or hangs" of the reader, is this true?
I'll be back at 6 ″ and the ignorance of Kindle in this format, will they have an excessive stock? On the other hand, he is a great reader. I have a veteran Dx that is far from the screen quality of the current Kobo, Kindle ...
In my experience the ideal size is 8 ″ (I read a lot on an iPad mini) but with Eink and reader-like lighting not tablet-like. 8 ″ is carried in the pocket of a pea coat and even a jacket and is handled acceptably with one hand ... uf this is more a complaint than an opinion.
6,8 ″ (8 ″) - kindle software and screen-finish iPad = ideal reader for me. Kobo = virtus in medio for the moment, or "the best is the enemy of the good."
Thank you
