Ruben Aido Cherbuy

After many conversations and moments of gathering, the idea arose that we should be serious and specify some questions to answer to offer them to all of you. For all this, today we are here with Rubén Aido Cherbuy, author of the novel "Tomorrow could be a great day" and which has been launched writing adventure and tell their stories by self-publishing and selling them on Amazon.

Nine questions to know a little more about this young author that surely soon, we may see him signing books at one of the most important book fairs.

All eReaders:How did you come to become a writer and novelist?

Reuben AC:I have a specific night in my head, in which, without a doubt, it all started. At that time (about 4 years ago) I had just finished some administration studies, and I felt lost, I did not know what I wanted to do in the future, I did not see myself. Writing had always been there, I loved reading, without being excessively, although more and more, I always liked to express myself freely in front of a blank page, using my imagination a lot (it came in handy in exams when I didn't know any question, I put a lot of money on it and it used to work).

But one night, I told my mother that it would be nice to be a writer, that it must be a very beautiful profession. In bed, I set myself a challenge. Would I be able to create a story, a novel? The idea of that first story came that night in the same way that it had happened in so many others, but this time he was not going to let it pass. I began to write in a propaganda notebook, with huge rings, very uncomfortable, but I did not pay attention to those details, the story flowed, I was having fun creating a place, some characters, and a conflict. It was a summary, a structure of how it should be if it was carried out, and above all, it was a disaster full of studs, narrator changes, impossible dialogues ... I did not sleep all night, it became daylight without hardly noticing it! ! When the house began to wake up, I made everyone aware of what had happened to me and my intention, even though I didn't know when or how, to shape that story. I remember and will remember that night, with a lot of affection.

Rt:The black novel or suspense is always among the best sellers, what led you to decide on this genre?

CANCER:I'm a huge fan of the genre, and when I started to imagine stories, they were always framed in it, without even trying. There is something special in their plots and in the forms, that I really find passionate. The ability to surprise, to overwhelm, that makes each page wonder what can happen to the characters ... it is a constant tension that turns the reading experience into a restless, intense adventure.

The truth is that having premiered with him, it is the genre in which I feel most comfortable, and for the moment I will continue to move around the crime novel, but I would love to try others, and I have the most varied projects, the time will tell what can come out of them.

Rt:When did you see that it was time to publish a novel and launch it on the market?

CANCER:It was with that first story that I have talked about before. It took me a long time to finish it, more than two years. It underwent many changes, cuts and additions, but when finished, it was worth it. I felt on my way at last (since then I can't imagine doing anything else, or at least, not without combining it with writing, you already know how things are).

The first thing was to teach it to the family. I suppose that I am not the only one for whom the opinion of family members is not enough, but it is for guidance and encouragement. I liked it, and that's why I took the next step. If you're going to give it a try, why not start big? At that moment, it was when I entered the world of publishing: long waits, some eternal, and promises of answers that I am still waiting for today. I consider myself impatient for a lifetime, and therefore, while I was waiting, I started another story, one that on this occasion, I finished in just over 6 months, which you can find for sale today.

An objective vision of the current market and the situation in Spain, made me come to the conclusion that it was a bad moment for a new writer, so young and without any contact with the publishing world. This is where I discover the world of digital publishing, and when I realize that there is no better way to start and make yourself known, than using this editing system (desktop publishing, in my case).

Rt:Have you ever thought about the possibility of your novel becoming a bestseller that catapults you directly into the "elite of Spanish novelists"?

CANCER:Well, the truth is that I don't know how to answer this question. The possibility is always there. One, when he gets into this world, unintentionally or willingly, he discovers himself dreaming that kind of thing, I the first. Success in this profession, for me, is first and foremost being read by the greatest number of people, and then loved by your creations. That is linked to fame, and I neither dislike nor crave it over other things. I accept it and of course, if it comes, I will enjoy it with my feet on the ground.

Think about it, believe it, not so much anymore. I believe more in a long-distance race, to enjoy the road and grow by learning from experiences, little by little.

Rt:Why did you choose Amazon? What do you think of the option of offering the novels for free for a while?

CANCER:First of all, I chose Amazon, because it is a benchmark in the sale of ebooks, with its own e-reader and format, known worldwide and number one in this sector. I studied it for as long as my little patience allowed it, and it must be added to what was mentioned before, that KDP (Your publishing tool) is very intuitive, easy to use, and, very importantly, free of charge. Why not give it a try?

I worked on my own in the layout, the cover (With some help from the family) and other details of the edition, and then, I simply had to take care of the promotion of the network, without knowing that this is much more stressful and complicated what to write if possible And so much!

Regarding the second, one of the aspects that is clear to me is that a stranger cannot expect a great reception out of nowhere, trust must be earned, and the only way is to offer your work, at least for a time, of free of charge, nothing better to start the promotion. In fact, 5 days seemed few, but we are not going to underestimate our own work. At the price it is now, I don't feel like a thief.

Thanks to the free promotion, my work reached more than 200 people in a few days, and that, in addition to giving you vertigo, gives you the feeling of having achieved an achievement.

In short, I am totally in favor of this type of free promotions, since, in essence, this literature tries to reach the more people the better.

Rt:What is your opinion of Amazon's so-called unfair competition?

CANCER:This is complicated at times, another difficult. It is a topic that is on the lips of everyone in the sector, and I really cannot say that I am indifferent, but it is something that is great for me at the moment. I am aware, and I can say that above all, Amazon has helped and helps to disseminate many works and in an affordable way, which otherwise could not have seen the light, and in essence, who most benefits is the reader and above all, literary culture.

Rt:Do you have an e-reader or do you plan to have it? What do you think about the current debate between e-book and paper book?

CANCER:Well, I don't have it yet, but it's a matter of time, because I think it's a great way to enjoy reading a lot of exclusive titles in the format and also at very good prices.

Actually, the fight that many mention to me is a dance of two, because I do not think that one should be substituted. It is true that the ebook has come to monopolize a large portion of sales, which it has had to "take away" from the traditional book, but it is nothing more than an evolution that improves and expands the offer, adapting to the times. It is not necessarily the exclusive future of book sales, because a good book in your hands is always a unique experience, being able to turn the pages and as many will know, that smell that permeates us when we read ... the ebook cannot have it, from In the same way that the ebook has its positive characteristics. I believe that over time, you will learn to live with both formats, and the balance will benefit everyone in the industry, and especially the readers.

Rt:Are you already working on your next literary project?

CANCER:The answer is yes, although my next job is actually my previous one. Let me explain, "Tomorrow could be a great day" is my second finished novel. The first one I wrote, (That Unforgettable Night) I saved for a future occasion. The idea of seeing it on paper I have not abandoned nor do I think I will, but to wait, in this life is to run the risk of losing the opportunity. For this reason, after this stage, which has only just begun, but which has only brought me good experiences, I have decided that my "debut feature" will be the next to see the light of day.

Currently, I am working on its rewriting. In essence, the story is not going to change much (Or that is my intention) but it has been more than three years since I finished it, and being my first job, the style is far from what it should be, I find it outdated, it can be improved. So I'm doing a facelift. At the moment, I am satisfied with the development. As a curiosity I will tell you, (although it already circulates on my website) that it is the first part of a police saga, but that will be decided by time and the readers, of course.

Rt:Do you dare to tell us something about your novel? What would you tell us to make us decide on it?

CANCER:Well, these kinds of questions always make me nervous, because I'm really bad at selling myself or my work. It is in your hands to give it a try, and I am delighted if so. What I can do is tell you that above all, this is the beginning, my first work that sees the light. My intention is not for it to become a benchmark work, or a life-changing experience for the reader. I seek to entertain, shake at the right time, make you doubt, look for the culprit, curse such a character for falling into the trap, and above all surprise, and in some way, I would say that it is achieved. Well, this story transforms as if nothing were happening as you read the pages, play games with romance, intrigue, action ... and it surprises you again because without realizing it, you stand at the end and discover that it is over, with a good taste of mouth. Perhaps the story is not as unforgettable as one would like, or its characters are as charmingly perfect as in other books, but the sensations are there, those real emotions that are not explained or seen. And when the time comes, I hope that you will come across my name again, look for it on other pages, and you can rediscover those incredible sensations. It has been well? Well, this is just the beginning.
