Although in recent weeks we are seeing the launch of many eReaders, it is true that not all of us continually change eReaders, indeed, if we do well, there will still be those who use the Kindle with a keyboard or the Kobo Glo to which we are going to refer. The good thing about having a somewhat old and very sold ereader is that there is a great community behind it that helps us to improve the device significantly.
In this case, the tutorial that follows applies to the Kobo Glo or any Kobo eReader that has a firmware lower than 2.6 and to which we want to install the Google Drive clientIf you have fimware 2.6 or higher, do not try it or if you do, know that your eReader may be unusable or seriously damaged and in any case in Todo eReaders we are not responsible for what may happen.
What do we need to have Google Drive on our Kobo?
To have the Google Drive in our eReader we will only need:
- A battery of 95% or more.
- Usb / microusb cable to connect to our pc.
- Be root on our eReader.
- The GitHub files by softapalvelin.
- Our Kobo has a firmware lower than 2.6.
- A new Google Drive account since using the old one could mess up our files in the synchronization.
Installation
Once we have this we do the following: We connect the eReader to our pc and we will see how a new drive appears on our pc, we copy Google Drive software for Kobo and we paste it in the unit that belongs to the memory of the eReader, at the following address: .kobo / KoboRoot.tgz. Once copied, we disconnect the eReader from the pc and do the following:
- We turn on the Wi-Fi connection of the ereader.
- We connect the eReader to the pc.
- We copy the file .grive-sync / README.txt of the eReader.
- We paste it in the browser of the pc and execute it.
- We copy the authorization that will appear in the following eReader file .grive-sync / auth.txt
- We unplugged the eReader from the computer.
- We turn on the Wi-Fi connection again, (if it was already on, we turn off and on)
After this and if we have performed the authentication operation correctly, our ereader will begin to synchronize with our Google Drive account. How you can see is simple and as long as the requirements are met there is no risk, even so, for the most doubtful, I recommend a backup of your ebooks. You never know where we can get confused or that there is some mistake.
