Google's ebook service continues to operate despite the lack of a major update in a while. In the last few hours, an announcement was published on an official Google website regarding an interesting change coming to Google Play services.
This new feature allows for a family account with Google products, including Google Play Books. Up to six family members can share Google Play content , such as movies, audio, or ebooks. However, this Google service is not yet active; it will be rolled out over the next few months and before the end of the year, suggesting it will be a feature for upcoming Google devices.
This service is not new since other companies such as Amazon allow such pairings, but it is true that they do not allow the use of 6 people nor do they allow sharing content such as music or videos.
On the other hand, this new service, which will include Google Play Books, has its drawbacks, such as its high price— Google has indicated it will cost $14,99 —and the possibility of purchasing with a credit card. This is especially dangerous because any family member could buy content using the associated account, presumably the parent's. We imagine Google will offer security measures, but at first glance , it seems the system will cause more than a few problems for parents.
Personally, I think it's interesting and will be a novelty for ebook lovers, since Amazon's family service isn't available worldwide and this Google Play service seems to be , although let's hope it doesn't have that final fee or that it's at least modifiable, because I highly doubt families will be inclined to pay this fee for something they can do simply by changing accounts , don't you think?
