Connecticut Libraries Will Have an Exclusive App for Ebooks

Connecticut Library

Currently there are many companies and programs that are dedicated to offering ebooks to different institutions and libraries. Companies that have a certain number of clients or governments.

Such is the case with Overdrive, Camilo, and 3M Cloud Library. Some libraries use more than one service , which is interesting, but it's gradually driving users crazy because they have to be registered on three or more apps and search for the titles they want to read across all of them. This is tedious for many. Connecticut libraries are aware of this and have decided to change it.

There are more and more apps for libraries, a problem Connecticut wants to solve

Thus, over the next few days, work will be underway on an application that manages all ebooks , allowing users to access them simply through this app. This app, called EGO, is being developed by Library Connection Inc. While not yet functional, it should be available on iOS and Android devices for Connecticut library users within a few days.

The aim is to prevent libraries from having to rely on multiple apps to read ebooks, something other libraries, such as those in New York, are already doing. Thus, EGO will be related to the New York Public Library's SimplyE ; at least some of its code will be reused to speed up the development process.

Fortunately, this situation doesn't occur in Spain, as it's usually a single company that supplies all libraries. However, it's a good example to illustrate that a very laborious or lengthy process leads users to read fewer ebooks or use these services less. So it seems that Connecticut and its libraries have had a great idea. Now, will it be possible to unify all the applications under a single app? What do you think about having more than one service when accessing ebooks?
