Amazon has opened an Amazon Books store in Seattle and announced plans for two more in Portland and San Diego. Now, we can say that a fourth one may be added to the list, as we learned today.
According to several sources, including the Chicago Tribune, Amazon is preparing to open another store in the north side of Chicago at 3443 North Southport Ave.
The Amazon Books store will be located in the same space where a bar, Mystic Celts, closed. The bar's owner sold the building to an investment firm last year, and they moved in earlier this year. The 668-square-meter location looks as it does now in the following photo, with trees growing in front. It's an ideal spot, as Amazon sees it, for another of those stores that will conquer the world as the years go by.
The store is slated to open next year, according to Amazon itself: " We are excited to bring Amazon Books to Southport in Chicago ," said Amazon spokesperson Deborah Bass in an email last Tuesday.
This store will be the fourth Amazon Books location when it opens. There's a rumor that another store is in the works in New York, but that has yet to be confirmed.
It seems these stores will be the first in a series of openings that will become exponential as the years go by. Amazon is heavily focused on bringing other types of retail establishments, as seen in Seattle and San Francisco with stores more dedicated to food and consumer goods. It wouldn't be surprising if we see one of these stores in our region in the coming years, as this is surely one of the goals of this American company.
