Amazon continues to expand its network of bookstores across the United States, and it seems that in the coming years we may be talking about the first one opening in our country. It's only a matter of time, as Amazon appears to be very focused on its "Amazon Books" brand.
Now, according to The New York Times, Amazon is planning to open a bookstore and café on Manhattan Island. Barnes & Noble has its headquarters in Manhattan , so some of its employees could grab a coffee at the Amazon store itself, since it's located in Hudson Yards.
Barnes & Noble has had its headquarters in Manhattan since 1971. But it will now face some competition on its own turf from Amazon, which will open a store in Hudson Yards. This massive commercial and residential development is slated to open in late 2018 or early 2019. The location is very close to the Javits Center, where Book Expo America has been held for the past decade.
Amazon will include its typical store where it will offer its products, just like the first bookstore opened at the end of last year in Seattle, making this vast shopping center the perfect candidate for Amazon's first store on the East Coast.
However, we're treating this news as a rumor, since there's no confirmation from any Amazon job postings for a bookstore in Manhattan. But if it's true, it would be Amazon's fourth announced bookstore, following those in Seattle, San Diego, and Portland . Another rumor circulating suggests Berlin could be one of the first locations for a store in Europe.
Amazon's intentions are quite clear , and its physical stores are being well received for further expansion.
