A few days ago we had the opportunity to learn more about Onys' two new offerings : the 13-inch Boox Max and the 9,7-inch Boox N96. Today, thanks to a video, we can get a closer look at these two e-readers.
The video was filmed by Booxtor, one of Onys's partners in Europe for distributing these e-readers, and showcases the sample units he brought from the company. In about 30 minutes, he highlights the features of the Onyx Boox Max, leaving only five minutes to describe the characteristics of both models.
The video shows how the Max handles PDF, DjVU, ePUB, CBZ, and TTS files and accesses Google Play, Dropbox, the Kindle app, and a web browser. It's a device focused on digital reading, but with Android 4.0, it offers even more features.
The Onyx Boox Max is a 13-inch e-reader with a 2200 x 1650 Mobius E-ink display. Booxtor has stated that the newer displays are not yet available and that the first units will arrive with the same display as the Sony DPT-S1 Digital Paper, which has a 1200 x 1600 resolution.
The Max will be priced slightly lower than the DPT-S1, so it's expected to come in at around €585 . It's an e-reader with a 1GHz dual-core CPU running Android 4.0. I don't think there's anything more to say about its price and features.
If we compare its capabilities to the DPT-S1, the Onyx device can launch a wide variety of Android apps, including Instapaper, Kindle, Kobo, Pocket, RSS, and other Android apps.
We'll see how it performs in a saturated market where e-readers seem to be stagnating. If we look at the Android market, it's in the same state, so we'll see how it fares in sales in a few months.
