A few years ago, a very peculiar and interesting trend emerged in the United States for avid readers: small stands offering books that could be borrowed for free . These were called "Free Bookstores," and they were quite successful, although they are not currently at their peak.
Several customers and owners of these small bookstores have reported that books are being emptied and are now being found in secondhand bookstores , leading them to believe they have been stolen.
The way these small libraries work is simple. A stall, about the size of a mailbox or slightly larger, is set up, and books are placed there that can be acquired for free. When the books are finished, the user can leave them at another similar station.
This has worked well, but lately the books have been resold and some people have even taken not only the books but also the post with the cabinet to store the books , which is more vandalism than theft.
Users and owners are already taking action and have begun marking the books , keeping them free but at least stopping the resale of books and this rapid depletion that makes the operation of Small Free Libraries useless.
Let's hope this problem is resolved quickly, although unfortunately this movement will be seriously affected. While it will likely be resolved in the United States, the damage may persist or even worsen in other countries where this movement occurs.
