In recent weeks we have seen a proliferation in the global market of tablets designed and featuring content geared towards young children, so I have decided to try to answer the question in this article: Is it advisable to give a tablet to a young child?
Not many years ago, we all received the typical ball as a Christmas gift or, if we were lucky, the latest bicycle to ride around and around for hours on the football pitch of the nearest park, but times have changed and many children and not so children don't even know what it's like without those gifts.
Giving a child a tablet isn't necessarily a bad idea; quite the opposite. However, it can become a very bad decision if the child's parents or guardians don't know how to limit screen time. Sometimes, the tablet ends up becoming the child's only toy, creating an unhealthy dependency. A tablet can be an interesting toy for a child's education and entertainment, but it should never replace a coloring book, a ball, or the traditional toy cars that have kept us entertained for hours on end.
This is just the opinion of someone who has always preferred a ball to a video game console and who would never give a tablet to a small child, no matter how much Samsung has manufactured a tablet for them that I would give an outstanding rating.
The ultimate decision of whether or not to give a tablet to a young child is made by the parents who should also be responsible when it comes to letting that child use it.
