The books in digital format they have been introduced into the classrooms of all colleges, institutes and universities, without our realizing it and above all without asking students what they prefer. It is precisely in this regard that we have learned today the results of a survey conducted by Student Monitor of 1.200 students from the United States, from different institutions of higher education.
The results of this survey leave no room for doubt and it is that 45% of all surveyed students prefer printed books when studying. Only 25% favor the laptop and a worrying 9% do so for the tablet, one of the devices that is having the most penetration in the educational world, not only in the United States, but throughout the world.
In most of the activities that take place within the educational world, students prefer books in paper format, except in research searching for information for which up to 61% prefer a laptop. The digital format also has a great acceptance, 32%, when it comes to consulting the notes or the delivery dates of works.
Why do students still prefer paper books?
This question that may seem difficult to answer, for me who has been a student until not too long, has a very simple answer. In my judgement I think that students still prefer paper books since with for example a tablet it takes a lot of work, studying in a concentrated and continuous wayas distractions are just one tap away on the screen.
In addition, the devices of today, unless studying on an eReader, end up tiring the eyes with the passage of time, and studying is not usually an activity of a few minutes. Studying with a tablet for me, and surely for many of you is a practically impossible mission.
Tablets or laptops are great for viewing information, storing it, keeping track of notes, or taking notes in class, but that they are not yet the most suitable device to study for many and varied reasons.
Now it is your turn to express yourself and give us your opinion on this subject, and especially if you consider that tablets or laptops are the most correct devices to study, to the detriment of traditional books in paper format.
