Until now, we've seen e-readers from Amazon, Kobo, and BQ—all major manufacturers—but what we hadn't yet seen was a device of this type designed and manufactured by a country, using electrical and electronic components also of Argentine origin. That country is Argentina, where the "Argentine E-Reader" is being developed.
This peculiar eReader, which will be available to students and teachers in the country, aims on the one hand to advance in reducing the digital divide and on the other to promote reading and culture. In addition, it also seeks to offer users a device with an affordable price for their pockets.
This "Argentine Electronic Reader" will allow all users to enjoy reading and also store digitized files of all the content selected by the country's public universities and the Ministry of Education . In addition to being developed in Argentina with locally sourced components, it will have strong support from public institutions, representing a significant step forward for the eReader.
This device, which is still in the early stages of development , will be manufactured in three distinct phases. The first phase will focus on gathering information about suppliers' capabilities to manufacture this type of eReader. The second phase will involve studying the device's design and functions and building a prototype. Finally, the eReader will be manufactured and released to the market.
Does a country need its own eReader?
On the one hand, I like the Argentinian idea, and on the other, I find it quite unnecessary . I like it because by building your own eReader, you can meet all your needs and develop it with them in mind. On the other hand, I find it quite unnecessary since there are already very good and, above all, affordable e-readers on the market.
Such the Argentine Government and all the institutions involved in this project should settle for reaching an agreement with a company such as Amazon or Kobo, to produce a personalized eReader, and spend the money from this project on other initiatives, related to reading. , but that they were not as ambitious as this one seems to me.
