9 reasons to buy an eReader over a paper book

Sony eReader

On many occasions friends and family Lately I have been asked for my opinion when buying an eReader or electronic book and one of your questions or star questions is that if I can explain the reasons why it is more interesting to buy an eReader compared to a traditional book in paper format.

To get you all out of this very common doubt, I have decided to write this article titled; "9 reasons to buy an eReader versus a paper book" I hope I can end many of your doubts.

1-      The prices of eReaders have dropped a lot in recent times and for example the most basic Amazon Kindle is priced at 79 euros. Assuming that each book in paper format had a price of 10 euros with only buying 8 books we would already have amortized the price of the device

2- The electronic ink screens of electronic books have improved a lot in recent times to the point of offering us an experience very similar to that of traditional paper

3- The digital books that can be purchased for eReaders are practically infinite and for example Amazon already have more than two million titles available, of which 70.000 are in Spanish

4- The network of networks is more and more full of eBooks for totally legal and free download, so that reading a book a month, a week or even a day could come out for the modest price of zero euros

5- Some works of literary classics such as Cervantes, Quevedo, Moliรจre or Shakespeare no longer have copyright because they have expired, so it is possible to access all of them for free

6- The weight of the eReader is minimal and the physical difficulty that until now was supposed to read for example "The Pillars of the Earth" and its hundreds of pages has disappeared

7- Electronic books incorporate very useful details and options such as dictionaries, the possibility of generating notes or underlining that do not incorporate traditional books in paper format

8- Authors can publish their own books, so there are a large number of digital books on the most recurrent and different topics that would never choose to be published in paper format.

9- Services like Amazon Cloud Drive They allow us to store an infinity of digital books in the cloud and to which we can easily access from our eReader and without occupying every corner of our house

The maximum advantage is missing, almost the only reason why, even if I have the book on paper, I download it and load it in the ebook: it saves the page for you! No falling bookmarks, no folding sheets. Simply, when you turn it on it remembers where you were going, and voila.

Apart from this, I would summarize it in that they occupy little, they can be carried everywhere, and they read like paper, even (some models) better, since they have their own light and can be read in the dark. The rest of the arguments are quite relative, and, let's face it, I don't think we convince many people by telling them that the complete works of Moliรจre can be read ๐Ÿ™‚

That advantage had not occurred to me and what reason are you lol.

      Regards my friend!

You really are cool, Villamandos. In point 1, promoting piracy. What must be measured is the difference between the price of the paper book and the electronic one, which in Spain, unfortunately and thanks to the Editorial-State collusion, there is little difference.

I have not read any more points. The first one and your promotion of piracy is enough for me.

Does the Gutenberg project sound familiar to you? Not everything you download on the Internet is "illegal" (in quotation marks because with the current law nothing is if there is no profit). And the last time I looked, buying you Don Quixote on paper was still worth money.

        Good point.

I will continue reading the entry :-), but I insist that I should have qualified it.

I see that you have reflected. It is specified later in the article and in the Forum we have a section of this type of books.

For example, in the Kindle Store you have free books of all kinds every day, even some recently published.

Greetings and forgive the tone from before that I had not read this comment.

Piracy? The network of networks is full of totally legal free eBooks.

You should be better informed before accusing anyone of anything.

You forget the most important: comfort. It is not the same to read a paper book lying down (it has a considerable weight especially if it is not a pocket edition and you have to keep it open with both hands) while holding an ereader is easier and lighterโ€ฆ. not to mention that when you read a paper book you have that: a book. In the ereader you carry hundreds or thousands of books. For me there is no color, since I switched to ereader I only read on paper what I cannot get in digital format.

Is it point 6 right? ...

      A greeting!

Leรฑe you are right !. Sorry, I missed that point.

And there is also being able to read several books at the same time without having to choose which one to take with you before leaving home. Not only that, there are extensions for web browsers that convert articles and posts into readable format for ereaders, so you can save them to read them later without leaving your eyes on the computer.

I would like to add two points, if you will. On the one hand in point 1, I do not think it encourages piracy, on the contrary. Regarding point 6, I think that for this point alone the existence of the eReader is worth it. I am a historian and if I had had such a device instead of carrying the blocks, things would have changed radically. By the way, I advocate for bookmarks, we should make a proposal on Change.org to save this market, hehehe. Greetings.
